The day will start at 9.30am with vocal and physical warm ups. During this time you’ll be allocated a vocal part, you could be a Tenor (The highest part), Lead (who sing the tune), Baritone (an Alto part) or Bass (for those women who sing very low).

Then together with Surrey Harmony you will spend the day learning the song from scratch. We’ll spend some time in small groups and some singing as a full chorus.

it wouldn’t be Barbershop without some snappy choreography.
Once we’ve mastered the song, we’ll be adding on the moves…

There will be plenty of breaks for tea and a lunch break during the day. Please bring a packed lunch and a bottle of water… singing is thirsty work!

it could be the first step you take towards becoming a member of Surrey Harmony and joining us on stage in Nashville next year! Rehearsals will finish at 5pm so there will be half an hour to freshen up ready for your big performance. Invite your friends and family along for a 5.30 performance of what you’ve learned during the day. We hope you can join us on the 28th; it could be the first step you take towards becoming a member of Surrey Harmony and joining us on stage in Nashville next year!

What is Barbershop?
Barbershop is a 4 part a cappella style of singing. You may know Barbershop as a traditionally male domain, but women have been singing barbershop for years now. The 4 parts still have the same names the men use, “Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass”. If you’ve sung Soprano before you’ll probably be a Tenor or Lead. Alto’s may find themselves best suited to Lead, Bari or even Bass!

I haven’t sung like this before. Does that matter?
No. we welcome singers of all levels of experience.

Can I bring my friends/parents?
Friends and Family are more than welcome to come along, however they must register separately to participate in the day. Why not invite guests along to the show at 5.30pm?
